We have just enjoyed a weekend away with Martin and Andrea, taking a short cruise from Shardlow to just above Trent Lock at the beginning of the Erewash Canal. Due to heavy rain last week, the River Trent was in flood for a few days, however the water levels have reduced significantly and the river is now navigable.

The floodgates near Sawley Marina were closed, however CRT have left one paddle on each set of gates open to level the water before they fully open them again, so boaters are asked to leave the lock in the same way.
At Trent Lock there is a quirky café 'Lock House Tea Rooms' which is full of old antiques, pictures and china crockery, serving some old time favourite snacks!!
We sampled the beer in the 'Steamboat Inn' also located next to the Lock which is dog friendly and had a lot of comical quotes dotted around. The CRT facilities are adjacent to the pub.
We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed seeing the first signs of spring. ☺
